My J.Cracks are still purple.

All of my Junipers at this place are in Winter clothing - not certain about the pile down in Alabama but I suspect they are green. Any whips I have here are just now budding. All are "acting" like we had a normal Winter - I am confused but oh well!

Very nice!
I just bought a juniper from Lowe's last week to try as my first cascade... This thread has provided some great inspiration.

:( My condolences!

No worries....I learned not to get attached...

More importantly...
I won't get yelled at all year for buying NAna's!

I am crazy honored to have your first post here on my thread!

I look forward to seeing what you're up to!

It looked completed all in 1 session and amateurs like me think it looks easy. If only all the cutting could be done at once and the bending and shaping done later.
A resource for over stressing junipers should be around here somewhere. It was good practice for you maybe? And it looked super nice too!
I thought it was that easy when I started looking into trying this sport of bonsai  Excellent post by the way !

I'm pretty sure shitty watering practices and winter is what killed it.

It definitely wasn't the wire.

Maybe someday for kicks. I'm gonna try that, " find a cheap juniper " an see how long it lives after getting sliced and diced .
Just to see how it looks in comparison.
I would have done it this spring if I knew what I think I know now.
How are you so sure it wasn't the wire?
I'm pretty sure it was the branch removal but it would be cool if it was only the wire

Grimmy- is it temp or amount of daylight that determines when they "wake up"?
Sorce- bummer! I wont bring another one home, they die too easily. I'll spend my time and money on ficus and local stuff. I dont think they are "nativo" here and never are going to be happy. They dont live at all down in the flatland here. Yours was coming right along, but it seems like lots of folks kill them from what Ive read. Cascade ficus time! Oh yeah, Ive got a couple pretensai bent over already... And now Ive got air layering down pat, Im going to have a lot more to bend!
