I have some real long candles on some real small black pines.

Anyone else got some long candles?

I am also experiencing unexpected ( Well not really) what seems to be extreme growth from my small Japanese black pine this year also. My candles on the top are about 6 inches and still going I will try to post some pics tomorrow when It is light so I can take them.

I have two BlackPines in the ground, right next to each other, and the smaller of the two has candles that are about 3 times the height of the larger one... Not sure why exactly... It started earlier and grew faster...

Maybe they are different cultivars, but the difference in growth is astounding!

I don't think they like your soil mix Al... They're trying to grow right up and out of it! ;)

The back one is 10" but the one in front of it at 5.6 is as big as a finger with more coming off of it! Never seen anything like it.

I believe the one in front is making pine cones. Seems I read you normally want to remove those, but like anything in Bonsai that certainly depends on want you are trying to do with the tree right now.

Not anymore...now that's a growth spurt:) 3" to16"... I've got two just over 10"... But much fatter (speaking of girth) lol

hmmmm...
it's been a good year for my JBPs. Didn't repot them so they're very happy to grow.
This is the longest so far.

Holy crap...so much for shorter needles lol

As my granddaughter would say "Just Kidding".... ;)

The large candle was on the ground under one of the pine trees in my yard (tall 30'), wind blew it out or the squirrels dropped it. I had my camera with me to take pictures of some other trees and thought of this thread when I saw it. I like to never got it to stay in place while I took the picture. I was going to come back and post this picture later last night but feel asleep.
