This pomegranate has two trunks, should I split it into two trees?

I just got this and I want to try to make a bonsai. It looks like two trunks, should I split it apart into two trees?

They easily can be two trees. You'll notice when repotting, will see what's below soil.

Take the soil away around the base and see if it is a twin trunk or if it is 2 sepparate trees. I have an Escallonia which I thought was a 5 stem clump, got it home and removed the soil and it turned out to be 3 separate plants that had been stuck in the same pot.

I separated it, I made another thread here with one of them. I am waiting to trim and repot the other one until I get some critiques on the first one :)
