I dug a bunch out of a hedgerow 3 weeks ago. I pruned but left lots of green on leggy small branches. My idea is to let them get healthy and chase back the foliage over the next several years.
this one (or 2) looks like it would benefit from separating the two. The bigger one on the left might have some good muscular roots that you might be able to show off. Any canopy that develops and has flowers will be icing on the cake. Understand that proper pruning at the right time of year (after flowering usually) will help a lot to develop the branchwork, and that these are at least 3 year projects depending on what is above what we can see in the pic.
