Hey folks,

thought I might share this with you.

Thus far 19 natives found and in Bonsai use.
Might be 20 if you count the logwood as native ?

This is only from the sides of the road, and this year after Christmas we will
step into the forests/jungles.

We know we have a local podocarpus, just have to find it.

Not bad for a small island about 50 x 35 miles - huh.

As to imported trees ----- 27 or so types.

What we have found is the locals are much easier to work.

If we are lucky maybe 35 to 50 will be our max.
Wish us luck.

looks something like this -

[ 1] Toco berry [ Erythroxylum ovatum cav. ]
[2] Toco berry ] inland cousin ]
[3] West Indian Acacia [ shrub ]
[4] Malpighia e - West Indian or Barbados cherry
[5] Toco Purple flower vine [ no Latin name as of yet ]
[6] Oxalis f ----- no common name
[7 ] Ficus priminoides
[8 ] Fustic ------ Chlorophora t,
[9 ] A] Conocarpus e - Buttonwood ---- two types - one has a B ]smaller leaf and tighter growth
[10 ] Acacia tree type - not identified
[11 ] Ironwood ------- either West or East Indies - incorrectly identified as Peltaflora
[12 ] Caribbean pine - Pinus caribbea / Honduran
[13] Zanthoxylum ------- West Indian satinwood
[14 ] Spindle wood
[ 1 5] Unidentified -------- called ----- Wound healer
[16 ] Seagrape
[17 ] Unidenfied - two types ----- weeping and normal
[18] Ficus unidentified -------- leaf is the same as the Ficus r. but smaller
[19 ] Myrcia a,----------- wild guava

Sida acuta ----------- 3 different sizes.

Mimosa pudica can get to 1" trunks.

I haven't heard of many of these. Except for the Unidentified, I even have some of those.
