for me, especially in winter when i can' be active along a stream collecting suiseki, or tweaking
a nice tree into the mental picture I have for it, is the opportunity to ponder seated in front of the Tokonoma.

tea in hand, a time to consider concepts that have survived the generations like this from Lao-tzu

"The reason why the river and the sea
are able to be king of the hundred valleys
is that they excell in taking the lower position.

Or how about this one from Kenko

In everything, no matter what it may be,
unifomity is undesirerable. leaving something
incomplete makes it interesting, and gives
one the feeling that there is room for growth

and finally from Basho

I do not seek to follow in the footsteps
of the men of old,
I seek the things they sought
