To chop or not...

Good move.
Curious, how long does a chop like that take to heal? Curious because I have a large chop on a pine I have been contemplating for a few years.
Anybody?

Apparently you should leave a stub that you wiggle down into a short “jin”, that keeps sap flowing up the stub for a while and helps the callous roll over the first part of the chop. Once it’s healed some you can then remove the remained of the exposed stub and heal the last bit of the wound.

A little cut-putty and some old bark laying around and nobody is the wiser......:)

JBP in the refinement stage? Cut will never heal in your lifetime.
