Hello! I'm still a beginner and this year I decided a bit late to try and grow some trees from seed. Japanese black pine and European larch seem most appealing (as I already have plenty of maples going). Given the fact that it's already mid-spring, and that I might have to stratify the seeds for a while, is it too late to try? Should I wait until next year? I live in central Europe with a temperate climate (zone 7).

Thanks in advance for help! :)

If you need to stratify any of them, i would say its too late, if stratification is not needed - sure plant them :)

9?
I can get the same germination if I plant seed direct well after frost has finished here so JBP definitely does NOT need stratification.
I have never grown larch so can't comment on germination requirements for those.

Go for it. At most you lose a few seeds. If you take care of them, they'll be fine. I am in a very different climate, but I grew some black pine, black spruce, and bristlecone pine seeds in fall and they are doing great.
