Glad I never eat my bonsai, or even their fruit, since obviously I might get sick, die, or worse, smell of elderberry.

Here's one that I do love but It's rather dangerous. These are pics from mine when I had my plants in a yard separate from my dogs. "Yesterday, Today and Tomorow" Brunfelsia pauciflora 'Floribunda' It's one of the nightshade family and which has these three toxins.

– Brunfelsamidine which excites the nervous system and can cause seizures and death.
– Hopeanine, a nerve depressant that may contribute to paralysis or weakness, and
– Scopoletin and gelseminic acid relax the arteries and drop the blood pressure and heart rate.

Prunus serotina, though not a desert dweller, is also high in cyanogenic glycosides, which upon reaching the upper digestive tract, are hydolysed into hydrogen cyanide.
