Days later and I have this. Wondered if I should've buried it all deeper. No worries I could do that next time. Another thing I've considered is completely removing the shorter of the two large trunks. FYI and a note to self, there's a bud popping out near the cut on the tallest trunk. Just sprayed some Sumagic a few days ago. I'll get to see what the effects are. I'm hoping small leaves and short internodes. That' would be awesome.

Update. Just unwired today most of the branches that I wired earlier in the late summer and fall.

As most of you know, I'm new to the bonsai game. I experiment a lot. With this quince, I cut very frequently back, especially the suckers. The primary branches, I allow to grow out and stay on longer, but I cut those back more frequently than my others. Just trying to get a feel for how this quince responds in practice.

Nice! Thank you and Merry Christmas to you and yours. The single one I have and cut back really seems to have just stalled since then, little growth, very few buds... I guess I will have to do a repot and inspection this Spring

I doubt many would guess it!

You really do show a great level of skill in the work.....

Dare I say a budding young Mach5...
Like a Mach3!

Keep it up !

Your projects may be young...
But they are all well above 80% correct.
On their way to perfect!

Got itchy fingers. I'm using a pictures that's not current, but the structure is the same. I'm thinking about making a cut as shown by the red line. The other side is a quick sketch of the concept I'm thinking of. What do you think, it'll improve the tree?

I think achieving your goal is going to be difficult because toyo nishiki don't ramify well. I think you can achieve the broad outlines easily, but filling the outlines in with the density you're showing in the drawing is another animal.

Before making heading towards the point of no return, I inspect some more.

Previous level and tilted. Still I'm thinking shortening the trunk is the way to go.

I made the cut and did 2 grafts. You can see one threaded and wired. I sealed my cuts. I'll wrap some parafilm and then some electric tape on the chop site tomorrow. I experienced very rapid healing on a cut on another Quince last year. Time for bed.

Eighteen days ago I made some grafts. Some scion from the section I removed. Buds not swelling, but the scion looks OK still.

From this side, you can see different graft attempts. Blue are scions, green is thread, and yellow is approach.

Back in the bag. Hope all make it.

I've popped in to check how things are going and after a discussion with @Bonsai Nut, I learned I have more work to do. I grafted some scions, so better ensure it gets energy directed to them. I cut away at the suckers.

My scions popping buds.

Grafts didn't take and the last chosen apex died. Had some dieback further down, not losing anymore branching. I don't see it as any set back really.

Thinned leaves out today and did some wiring.
