I do not think you are loco. I like the idea. I like it a lot. What species of elm is it? When did you collect it?
Thanks for the comments. I collected this this past late winter. It's either Cedar Elm or Winged Bark Elm, but I'd guess that it's Cedar Elm.

Repotted and changed angle a little. Want the trunk to bark up as best as possible so lowered soil line a bit.

After the repot I wanted to give this Elm athe least 1 more trunk. I don't think it's too late so I searched among the things I've hoarded for something useful.

This root cutting looked promising.

Wrong! No roots on the branches.

Then I had this.

Good amount of roots on the branch.

Measured, drilled, and clipped a few branches and bark wings. Threaded through and buried the roots.

Put a chunk of bamboo to make the hole snug, sealed and wired the branch. No more touchee.

My Cedar Elm is popping buds in the spot marked yellow. I guess I get to have more than twin or triple trunks.

Definitely like the bark on these. Very nice TP. You got a lot of things going on in your yard. Still haven't move yet?

Repotted this today. Added a thread graft afterwards. Picture only shows what I did to roots, which was untangle them and arrange them in place with nails. Most old nails left in place. Going to mostly let the roots thicken. Like my hackberry, this one went from few roots to an abundance of roots. Very exciting for me.
