I had the fortune of meeting a very nice realtor during a home inspection I was doing. The house was her recently deceased mothers home. I noticed a few bonsai and a really beautiful pond with several topiaries and a bridge over the pond/ river. We talked about her personal interest in bonsai and her mother's extreme love for this art. She then proceeds to tell me I can have some pots and a few trees from the ground. But I would have to wait a few months before I could bring them back home. I understood her grief, so I figured she needed time to mourn. I figured that was end of it.

During my morning coffee, I receive a text that I thought would never happen. IT DID HAPPEN.
So the wife and I drove out to Tampa with little expectations. But found more than I could of ever asked for.
In short ,I paid 100 dollars for all this. Of course I had to dig up the trees myself, but at this point, I was thrilled.
60 pots in all, with a few good trees, plus 2 bonsai shelves.
Sometimes good things happen to us all.
I am so grateful. Thank you Julia.

That's a great story! Life can bring some pretty amazing surprises. What is the lichen covered trunk? Looks like a conifer?

Many of us will face the same thing one day. It doesn't take much of a gardener to know that there is NO point in giving a plant of any type to anyone who doesn't show clear signs that they really like them.

Even though this was a great score for you, it was a pretty good score for her too... to be able to find someone who will make use of these items.

Personally, I will work for decades to develop trees that will die in the pot, or be thrown out because there is little likelihood that I will meet anyone with a passion for bonsai...

But, I can't worry about what will happen to my trees when I die... I want 3 good ones when I'm 70... 2 when I'm 80, and one after I turn 85... IF I live that long.

Not sure what tree I have for the last 2 pics. Does anyone know what it is? Maybe a boxwood?
