This is a volunteer tree that I just let grow in the backyard. Although I am unsure of what it is. It gets beautiful buds with foliage early spring. Anyone know what this is?

Try the findplant app, I have used it a few times at garden centres in the sale section from leaf identification.

I agree with crabapple. I don’t remember ever seeing fruits on it so I was wondering about it. If there were other visually closely related species. But everything definitely says crabapple about it. Never was really into crabapple. They do have nice blooms though.

my plant is app said it was in the rose family and that’s it.

I dont like that apps very much they can be useful but also misleading, I always try first to guess a plant by its flower morphology, leaf, bark, etc at least try to guess the botanic family or genus that belongs. Its also more enjoyable just look a unkown plant and try to guess what it is by its characteristics
