I've been eyeing a couple trees on campus to possibly acquire for bonsai (I would ask first). I walk by this gorgeous tree almost everyday, recently I've seen a couple new growths come out of the ground next to it. I'm in south Florida and this looks like an elm to me (Florida elm?). I wanted to see what some of you thought. The leaves are about 2" in length, maybe slightly larger for some.

Thanks,
Evan

Thanks rockm

Anyone else? After some searching I think it may be some type of Ash tree.

Why don't you find the phone number for the facilities offices in the campus phone book, and find out who the arborist on campus is, or ask the grounds folks. They would know.

:)

Gave them a call yesterday. The Grounds manager was out, so I emailed him. If I don't hear from them over the weekend I'll be calling again.

Picked up a couple seeds today to give anyone interested a better idea.

After some searching I still think it's some kind of Ash. The leaves have darkened significantly since the picture and have gotten larger as well. Still haven't heard from the grounds manager so I'm left at that.
