Good morning, I have a large tridant maple that is dropping tons of seeds. When I cut a seed in half it is green Inside. Can I plant these now or do I need to put them in the fridge like seeds you purchase online? Is a green center good? See pictures of my tree and seeds attached. I live in Minn

Greetings!!!

"Green/fresh" seeds are good-to-go!!!

As they dry, they develop their stratification/scarification requirements.

Just plant them, and wait 7-21 days!

Careful though...

Trident maples in containers die from cold near me...

Most of Minnesota will be as cold or COLDER than where I am located.

If (and only if) you are comfortable, you could send me a PM, and we can chat about the stark contrasts to the "norm" of the general area we live 🤣🤣... I do this for many northern folks, because both, I am friends, and also simply because it is a different world up here.

Not a trident. It's hard to tell exactly what kind of maple it is from the photos. Trident don't throw seeds in the spring, the bark and leaves are wrong as well. Could be a red maple, or even a Norway maple.

BTW Please post your geographic information in under your avatar. It is critical information that affects everything from native species, care and a number of other things. Putting it there, Will save us having to search for that critical info in every post.

Definitely not trident maple. Time of year has already been pointed out but also the samaras are much bigger and not the right shape for trident maple. The leaves are not trident leaf shape either.
