Hi,

I'm in the Pacific Northwest. I've got a couple of small trident seedlings (started from seed 3 yrs ago). They haven't budded yet, which is odd. If I scrape off some bark, it's still green underneath, so I know it's alive.

Any reason why it'd be so late budding?

Thx.

Real cold winter...still mid spring...do they feel brittle? Bark discolored?

Oddly, here in the mid-Atlantic, tridents seem to lag behind all other maples.
Hornbeams and zelcova are further behind still.

Hi Camikins,
Nice to see another Islander on this forum......up here in Campbell River my only Trident (3 year old seedling-root over rock) started out real slow this spring.... leafing out only last week....Its up against a south facing wall.
Most of the local club members keep their tridents in a greenhouse over the winter.
Hopefully yours will do OK.
Cheers Graham
