A few months ago I bought this trident maple but I have not been able to take it home because of the current height of the tree; I've left it with the gentleman that sold it to me at his nursery. I'd like the trunk continuation to get a bit thicker before I prune it off but I don't want it to go too far if I wait until next year. Obviously I'd love to be able to take it home once I prune it, but I wouldn't mind waiting another year to make it the best tree it can be. What would you do?

I like the first picture as the front, but I'd like to get some other opinions as well. I'd like to graft some roots in the gaps at some point in the future but for now I like it.

This is the rest of the tree. It's about 7 or so feet tall

I think my post got buried under other posts right after I posted it so I'm adding the rough sketches I made for the future trunk of the tree.

This would be the first chop, either this spring or next:

Then after letting the new leader grow again, when it's thick enough (black line) this would be the second chop:

Then finally the apex would come last:

I think I prefer the nebari in the 3rd pic for the front
Interesting, I hadn't considered that as a front but I kind of like it. Right now there's a big gap between the root on the right from the third picture, and the next root (you can see this well in the 4th picture). Maybe by grafting a root or two on there that gap can be fixed and then it can become another option. Thanks for your input, much appreciated!
