Trident Maple New Leaf Formation

I have been growing out this trident since I purchased it in the early spring from All Shapes Nursery. It seems like when the new leafing forms, it looks wrinkled and is varying shades of green/brown before developing into dark green foliage. Is this normal, or a sign of some sort of deficiency?

Perfectly normal and the Trident doesn't even have the most striking difference in color between new and old leaves.
Have a look at the Deshojo:

That Deshojo foliage looks like it's not even from the same plant!

Looks normal to me. Here is a picture taken this morning of my little trident. Leaves look a lot like yours.
