One step forward, two steps back! Comparing this to last years work, it almost seems that way. Part of it is the bad photograph. But it is progressing in the direction I'm after. Root grafts for this in spring, and allowing the left side branches to grow wild and catch up next season.

Seems a good pattern looking back farther than last!

Your right on target IMO...

The new branch below the wound is way fantasticer....and after you let that one above the wound go wild....the tree is definitely going to want to throw another there....more delicate....perfect....

Seems to be a great place to be....
A more delicate left side.....
Your "heavy" branching on the strong sunny right side.....

Definitive movement....

Hell......

Nice!

Thanks Sorce, that is pretty much it in a nutshell. Sometimes it just takes a long time to do it.
The nicest thing is that the large chop is really progressing towards closing.

If anyone would be interested in this tree, I have decided to sell this one. Current photos... The tree is 32" tall to the top of the new growth, the actual canopy apex is at about 20", so a nice compact tree for the base width. As you can see this one is very vigorous, and healthy. I have the soil level high on the base to encourage the root growth.
Currently in a really nice Yamafusa, but I could put it into a trainer to save on cost for the buyer.
