Trunk chopping maple

I have a to sumo gaki Maple stands about 3' tall I want to trunk shop it as the branches midway up are too lengthy and going straight Up I would like to know if at this time of year in Indiana would be OK I think my re growth would be small and compact which would be fine for a top as it already has low branches at 4 and 5 and 8" up please advice I

The tree is alive and growing, so why wouldn't it be OK?

The risk anytime one cuts all green off a stem is that it may not bud out and dies instead OR it buds but not where you want. It looks like your tree has a pair of low branches --> keep those and you can be confident it won't die unexpectedly.
