Hi all, I was asked by a friend today how to stake a full-sized tree to promote upright growth. Currently he has two trees and they are leaning slightly and his hope was to stake them and pull them back into the upright...

When I googled tree staking, I ran accross this interesting article that discusses the effect of wind on trunk strength, thickness, and taper... all properties that we strive for in bonsai and it lead me to wonder if this is why most nursery stock is so spindly... if one were to start a planting from seed and say keep an oscillating fan on it for several hours a day when it is beginning it's development, would that eventually lead to a thick and nicely tapered trunk? I'm interested to hear others' thoughts on this...
