Wired and shaped another small shimpaku today. On Adair M's recommendation I twisted and bent as much as I could, did hear 1 crack, to get it compact. The longer branches in the back will be left to develop the trunk or maybe bend and twist tomorrow.

Every tree I ever bend or twist talks to me at some point.

Next time you go to remove a branch you do not want... remove all of the bark off it first, and wrap some wire around it and do some bends to it. You will quickly find out that branches break all the time underneath the bark. It is the prevention of them breaking through and the separation of the cambium layer that that you want to prevent. As well the setting in place until the heartwood puts on enough growth to heal over the break and provide structure again.
