I got these Brazilian rain trees at Miami Tropical Bonsai today. They had so many BRT's that I couldn't even choose. They have some incredible trees there of every type...

Anyhow, These are my two new ones...

I don't really know which branches to cut.. The top one has like a sweeping long branch to the left, kinda cool.. The second one seems a bit more straight forward but still not sure..

You're lucky to have such easy access to them. I'm afraid, if I did, I'd have a bunch. My better one is trying to recover from a bad soil issue, while the $5 eBay purchase from a couple years ago, is growing like a weed. Enjoy, they are fun trees. Check out @LanceMac10 's BRT.

This place has literally 100's of these. They are all in poor soil as you can see but so many to choose from. It was like looking at a flock of birds. It kinda made me confused. I didn't know which ones to pick.. They were a bit pricey - $45.00 each. They are in plastic training pots too but oh well. Now I have 4 of them and Ill probably pick up two every time I go up there..It was literally 2 acres of all kinds of trees. It was amazing.

Time to get them healthy and forget about training.
Observe how they grow.
Good Day

Anthony, I’m going to repot now... can I defoliate afterwards even though this tree was completely root bound? Is it healthy enough?

Paul,

try a light trim to take some of the load off the tree.

BUT i suggest you talk to the others about doing the
repotting.
My climate is Tropical and I would not want to have
to order you a new tree, if my advice made you kill
it.

Very pretty tree by the way.
Good Day
Anthony

Here they are. All re-potted and mostly defoliated. I left just a little bit of foliage on there just in case but I completely defoliated my other one when I repotted and its budding like crazy. These were root bound pretty bad so I was just being a bit safe.

My $5 eBay BRT dropped every leaf within a couple days. Two years later, still skinny trunk, but growing like a weed. I know it needs a serious trim, but going on vacation in a week, and want to waitebay brt.jpg until we get home.
