collected this beast with two others in 08. as happens the 2 best ones died. this one made it. the tree was planted on a slant to deal with an almost straight featureless trunk. in early 2009, a large jin was created at the base, the trunk was hollowed out and the branches cut back hard. the work was a bit haphazard because of the tree's perceived deficiencies.

ugly cont.

over the next 3 years the tree grew strongly, was replanted in a ceramic shell and cut back and rewired several times. fast forward to today 1/19/11. #1 the tree before work. #2 pruning and rewiring underway. #3 ways to go yet, but its beginning to look like something

very nice work! the only thing i would change is the pot. i don't think there is a harmony between the pot and the tree. just my opinion though.

thanks for the comments. one of these days when the tree gets further along, I'll need to make a serious pot choice. the shell was something I had around so the tree was put in it without much thought.

best wishes, sam

That's great work! The deadwood carving is very rustic looking! Thanks for sharing it!
