No. All elms that I have fill whatever they are in
,be it a bucket or a colander or bonsai pot with roots in a year. Packed.

Thanks.

Looking at this photo again....wildly awesome roots!

Thanks!

I'm surprised that they turned out to look acceptable.

Quite honestly....

I just followed the rules and arranged them correctly...
Still a few crossers that will be dealt with.

I can't wait for time to make them better.

I Will repot this into a much wider basket next year. Try to put some girth on them.

Now if only the top will cooperate.
It seems as if the roots are getting better and the top worse.
I dread having to chop it way back and start all over...
But whatever it takes to finally be able to "use" the wicked bottom!

Boom Steez.

Repotted this Thursday I think...
Over 38F!

Sorry for the Crap Pics!

@GailC I thought for a second that layer died...
But!
It was just stalled because it started back in Febby!
It's anxious to get to you!
It's greening up now!

I think a Fall mailing is within reason!

20170413_105335.jpg

I keep ALMOST cutting this off...

But I can't....

It reminds me of @crust Witch tree needs a slab.

And I'm starting to see a good "base" to layer it at.

Anyway...

Few more years of prep and I may be able to start working on this actual tree!

Cleaned up the roots some.

Bit bigger basket....

Gotta go play more...

Thats good to hear.

Your crab is starting to push buds, its a bit behind the others crabs but it doesn't have the best roots. Hoping this season will see lots of new roots and back budding. Still trying to decide if I want to shorten it now or wait until I know the roots are growing better.

Bloody Hell!

Wait'll you see the root gall? Uh. Burl?

A good 1/5 or so of the pot is solid wood mass.

Pretty sure that's why my growth has been mediocre.

Growth this spring has been fantastic. I did find a big dry patch that would never have gotten wet with this in the way. I'm sure though, my poor growth has been more directly because of the fungus that makes the leaves yellow and fall. Meh. No biggie.

It came off easy enough, should have operated earlier.

Threw some moss under the cut and over.

After sitting with it for a while, I found some leaf issues, looks like it's going into "problem mode" again.

Happy it's alive.

Full Repot later this summer!

There are several different causes for root galls. Nematodes is one. I suspect a plant virus is another. Do not recycle any soil from this tree into pots for other trees. You might transmit the nematodes, if they are present. The are nearly microscopic, difficult if not impossible to see with the naked eye.

Position this tree so that water run off from rain or irrigation does not drip into or onto any other tree in your collection. You also want to keep leaves from this tree from falling into pots of other trees.

What ever is wrong with the tree, it might not kill it. It might not be contagious, but it is best to do a Covid19 isolation for this tree.

Still Up in the air on layering this braid off anywhere on the straight part just to develop these separately, But each season the need just isn't there. Though I may be losing the microtree I wanted to layer that lies between the lowest tree and the braid sacrifice beginning. Maybe not.

_DSC0010.JPG

Maybe repot maybe not. I think I would rather repot just the one tree after the layers have been removed, I reckon that will lessen my possibilty for error. Less parts of the tree to send signals around to figure shit out. Quicker recovery.
