BTW what do you think about small buds that appear between surface wood and cambium, should i pull them off, or there may be a good branch?

Some of them might help the healing...

But without careful observation, they could make it ugly as well....

I would try to keep one well placed one(for healing), unless you wish a design branch there....but I'm not seeing it.

Yes, then i will let just one bud there for healing, and rest i will chop them off.
Thanks

I trimmed my ulmus at April 26.
And after 20 days (May 6), it has new buds everywhere :)

Is it common behavior for shoots to be coming from the wood (on the chop) rather tjan just the cambium?
First time seeing this one....
I'm shocked no one really pointed that out...very weird looking in those first 2 pics ...
The shoots coming off the cut part of bare wood!....it must be a hollow there, right?
There must be cambium there somehow....?
What the hell?

Very interesting indeed. I would let one of those oddball shoots be my leader. Im curious how it would look after the chop heals up, and how much taper it would offer b

Yes, it seems they are coming between wood and cambium.

Bro!

That effer was in severe cut back mode.

Defoliation at This stage is just a setback!

Even when you finish a final canopy...

I doubt you'll ever need to defoliate.

If you wanna lose 2 weeks....
Ship em to me! Lol!

Good growth!

Utilize it properly!

Ok, you are right.
I dont want thicker body, just to get more branches, so i defoliated. But right, that cut needs healing.
I will just feed it anymore for a long time, i promise :D

They're coming out of the calcium.
It's just that there are so many it looks like they're coming out of the wood.

Thanks, that was also freaking me out. Still seems odd, all the placement of shoots. Is the cambium and outer layer thicker than it looks? Looks as though it's coming from wood, which is not possible but I think it's just cos the cambium layer recedes in, more than the pictures show.

It has thick bark. And maybe isn't too large, that's why the bark looks thick. An optical illusion.

Finally, i pruned hard and restarted at this tree(14.04.2018). Then i noticed its axis is leaning, and tried to pull a little.
Now, i feel it seems better, but still leaning o_O
