This was a cutting taken last May and ignored, Really didn't expect it to take after the fancy set it and forget it method.
It's not been pruned as evidence of the prongs of 4-5 on the little branches. Surprised me with blooms I should have pruned off but didn't until entering.
If this doesn't fit the rules feel free to delete me:)

Didn't come from Wally World. My landscaper friend ripped it out with his truck October 2018 and dumped in my yard while away. I dug a hole and stuffed it in the garden until spring 2019. Dug up, bare rooted and thrown in a pond basket. Chopped the tops hard and stuck one in an empty pot and left another year.
It lived so it deserves some love.
This little thing legal @Pitoon ?

I like it!

I hope it’s not too late to “get in”..I have a Girard’s White Pleasant on the way, and would very much love to be a part of this.

Wow that flower is fluorescent. Vivid color.
It looks like this in person too. Almost Hot Pink with more red, The mama clump should be out soon.

Unfortunately after looking under the hood today I may have bet on a lame horse.
All the roots formed on the two side branches and nothing on the main trunk.
Seems the side shoots are feeding the main trunk now. I left everything on the main trunk for now hoping to get it going. My plan to cut off the two side shoots now are out but wondering if keeping them in check could turn them into basically root grafts.

I need a better horse...

I think you do need a better entry for the contest.

But the side shoots will make it, Pitch out the plug in-between and just grow out the side shoots in their own pots. They could become nice shohin in a number of years. I'm pretty sure you have a better azalea that would qualify for the contest. If not, a good excuse to go out and get another one.

To keep the contest fair for everyone please use new material from this year. Based on your post this material was started/worked on last year.

Okay, I'm out. No Problem and not much there to work with anyway.
I have 5-6 Azalea already and not buying anymore unless my landscaper friend happens to jerk one out of the ground again.

If your friend jerks one out again, no problem to use that one. You can get a cheap azalea from HD or Lowes for like $7 on sale right now.

I picked up a couple varieties from my friends greenhouse the other day while getting veggies for the garden.
Girards Crimsom with vibrant red flowers and Karens which has a purple flower and looks to be the most promising trunk.

So Ill choose one and try again. Should I continue this thread or start a new one @Pitoon

Continue with this thread, thanks

I have some Girards Chrimsom cuttings I took last year. They do have some really nice flowers.

The Girards was two plants in one container. I just couldn't see a tree in there so I cut them apart and put into the grow bed.
My new entry is this Karens kurume.
Repotted into a pond basket of lava, pumice and bark also cut back pretty hard. I set the basket in a nursery can for now. We'll see... I may plant the basket in a grow bed for a year or two.

I'll grab a pic later. Not much yet for back buds but growing at the tips. Had I cut them all off it may have done better in that regard. This is my first Kurume and seems a bit slower than my others.
