Back in the 90’s I had just heard about bonsai and purchased a small tree from a member at the Iowa Bonsai Association.
It had lemon smelling leaves and they were very tiny.
So there’s not very many trees that have lemon smelling leaves that can make a good shohin bonsai right?
What are some?

Sassafras albidum has a lemon smell when you crush the leafs, it's a US native plant.
Could they make good shohin? Well, I haven't got mine to grow past the first two inches in 5 years.. So maybe?

I think it could possibly have been lemon button thyme. Does that sound accurate?
I killed it very quickly and didn’t return to bonsai until 15 years later.

I found it. It’s silver thyme.
I have not heard of anyone making a bonsai out of this since back then.
Has anyone used this recently?FBEB476B-44D6-4659-B409-006B76A69583.jpeg

Ah, good find! I saw a few at noelanders this year. But it takes quite a while for them to develop anything substantial.
