Is it just me or did you get that thing home on the back of a motorbike?

Its a Vespa scooter actually, so yeah its just you;)

Im looking at other potential, here's a couple of European Hornbeam....this one ive had my eye on for a while now and ive talked them down from £150 to £100
its very promising material, good base, fluted nebari, great subject for layering a few trees from. but i'd only really want it as a powerful stump. such a stump needs a wide canopy, but im running out of space on my balcony:(

i'd need to reduce both considerably to get them on the scoot, top and root ball. just not worth the hassle, so i was happy to get that Beech yest:cool:

Great pick-up. I've been dragging my feet on a nice chinese quince for awhile now. Noticed Don was no longer listing this one so I guess now I know why!! Congrats, very nice.
Don still has some nice fatty shorter ones. My friend picked up one of those... You should def get a C.Q. they are so much fun.

I'll trade you a really nice Tamarack for a really nice Scots? Although I know you can get Tamarack as well so you pretty much have yourself covered its worth a try :).
We could maybe work something out.
If they're still there I'll be getting as many as possible.

Not a bad buy i think, the low branches give me good styling options, the tree has a good nebari and a couple of potential leaders at the top.

I ended 2016 with a Beech and started 2017 with another Beech, i guess life must be a Beech:D

Good score for the money!! And you know I'm all about that scooter!!!!

@BobbyLane going to the nursery....

Yeah this one was tough to track down but thanks to @Vance Wood who said he was positive it was a cypress that led me to eventually find a picture of the cones and seeds so I eventually got there. Not a lot of info out there in English either and there are not supposed to be many around these parts yet I'm surrounded by them.
It has some interesting bones so I'll be excited if it does survive.

LOL, sometimes a rare species doesn't read the books. I have seen some rare plants that if you find them at all, when you do there are many in that area. Locally abundant. You are lucky, especially if it is as good for bonsai as other related genera.

It's funny as it really does appear localised, I don't see them 2 minutes down the road but I think it is natural dispersion, or maybe was at some point.
Not sure if I can get any more but I can collect the seed so I think I will try that.
It is the Maltese national tree and there are some guys there and in Greece that use them for bonsai so that is encouraging plus it is said they respond to coppicing so I really hope that means they are tough enough to survive the dig.

They bulldozed at least 10 of these last year just because there were works going on and they needed a block to store their machinery.
Fair enough I guess but I had no warning otherwise I would of asked them if I could take a few first.

Curious....can you, do you, drastically prune roots on a Beech?

Interesting trees. I hope you'll post some photos of the chop cutting reducing the overall height. I'm particularly interested in where you choose to chop the trunk shown in the third photo....nice base too!

Firethorn, dug out from a job site. Not exactly a "tree" but it looks cool and gnarly, and I haven't a clue as to what to do with it. Other then keep it alive for the moment.  Any ideas would be welcome.
I like this! It will pretty much tell you what to do if you look at it...

I can't tell you what Bobby does, but they do not like root disturbance, so I wouldn't recommend any drastic pruning. Steps...

Anudah clump for this chump. ~~>
Falconet Charlot. All nice and thorny, and it has some flower buds. Shorter nodes than my Toyo nishiki. I have small in mind for this one. If any one is interested, I have a good supply of this for sale.
