I was going to post these where they go, and still will, I just got lazy tonight.

These first pics are from a post called Kifu Trident. I had made a notch in the trunk to grow roots and had also performed three approach grafts. The roots are coming along well and two of the three grafts took well. The third I may have pruned back too much green when I severed it from the scion tree and it dried up. I think it took OK but I was a little careless.

No matter after I chopped it back and cut all those marvelous branches off and did the grafts, the tree went ahead and pushed new growth right where I needed it with out the grafts so it was all for practise anyway.

This tree was the juniper I used for the thread "yamadori style juniper one more time".

This tree is doing well and the trunk is growing and the tree has suffered the death of only one branch that I broke while bending it. Next spring I will take off all the wire and rewire the top.

This should be nice.

I have a thread about this holly somewhere. I do not know what it is titled, or what sub forum I put it in.

The tree is doing quite well and a repot is due here. I need to cut the roots and find a round pot to put it in. The base is so large that it will take a 6 to 7 inch pot.

The base is 6 inches across and the trunk is 2.5 inches across andthe tree 6 inches tall.

Someone asked about the trident maple. This is how it looks on the bench right now.

The bendy twisty pine is doing very well. This will go into it's first bonsai pot next year.

This shohin pine was cut back hard in Jan.

It has responded well and will get some pruning next month.

I will be teaching a workshop in Feb. at this years shohin convention in Santa Nella.

These ten tridents are my workshop material. All are about 7 inches tall with 1 to 1.25 inch trunks.

I have chased back the foliage 6 times since I picked them up in July. This is the last time I will prune them, as I want some long tips for branch selection. The ramification on what is there is already pretty nice. This workshop will be on building spreading oak style trees.

if i may ask you a question about trident maples? i see you're in fresno. i'm in chico, so i think our weather is similar, if not exactly the same. i have a trident that recently did something odd. the established leaves dried up a bit and two new, vigorous shoots popped out of the trunk. this tree has been fairly calm for the two years i have had it. it gets a little morning sun, but then shade the rest of the day. this was a bit of surprise. i'd appreciate your two cents.
