One Winter day while driving across the 10 mile stretch at Woodward while I-696 leg had leveled all the old brick brownstones/homes from the teens of the past century. I begged a Cat driver to pardon few items from his pile... Here's a bit of a history of what I could find along with a repot yesterday and some trim & new wire detail. This first image is after about 8yrs the next on is '0398_March.JPG03_J.Chinensis.JPG14Sept_Uchida_juniper.JPG20Feb_Merced_junip.jpg in'14Sept Uchida aka Bonsai Crazy, did a little work with me and the image on the right is yesterday.

Great tree and story! Do you always wire out your trees wearing a robe and sunglasses?!?! 😎

Actually yes and no. That is Uchida, but I’m in my robe most of the time (yard’s quite private hah!)

Doesn't he have a unique affliction to bright light? Hence the Ray-bans? He was down at Bonsai West in MA. around the same time. I got some second hand stories of late-night wiring sessions on a bunch of Michael's material. If my memory serves me correctly, he styled the old Hatanaka Juniper Michael displayed in the Artisan's Cup.

I rock a ratty house-coat right out in the street...no shame in comfort, son!!

Yes apparently Uchida is probably not yet 40. He’s quite a character as we wired and wired nearly 5-6 hrs straight... (I do that in about 2 hrs stretches) of course a lot of beer was consumed... lol!

Comfort rules the day! Much to my wife’s dismay I wear my nice leather Birkenstock’s in the garden or while potting up a tree all the time. Don’t know if I’m quite gangster enough to go full robe, but my sweats are good enough I suppose. I do most of my repotting after hours so I’m in full relaxation mode at that point.

What’s up guys I have a some questions and any input will be appreciated! My uncle has some junipers he planted in his yard when I was around 14-15 (I’m 31 now) and I have been wanting to dig em up for like 3 years now but I’ve been too scared to cause I didn’t wanna kill em, but I finally asked him since I saw they were a little neglected and he happily agreed to it, now my questions are when is the best time to dig em? I live in Southern California I think I’m in zone 10, they have new growth coming out at the tips, also today I went to water em and I noticed some white little bugs crawling around the base of one of the trunks, I’m guessing maybe root aphids? Would it be wise for me to try and get rid of em while they’re still in in the ground or do I have to dig em up to take care of the problem? (Sorry I’m new to this) once again any help, info, tips and tricks would greatly appreciated!
