How would I go about finding out the value of a few scrolls?
I have a neighbor that has been admiring my bonsai for a couple of years now. Every once and a while he will come over and we will share a beer or two while he watches me work on trees. Well, one day last week, he came over and was amazed that I was watering trees during the winter. In my garage, no less!
He helped with moving them around a little bit, and found a little juniper that he fell in love with. I gave it to him as a gift, and told him that I would help him with the maintenence of said tree. He was thrilled, and said he had something for me.
Well, to keep this story short, he returned that evening, beer in hand, and a box in the other. He said everything in the box was mine. He said he "picked it up" at an estate sale many years ago in NJ. Inside was several Japanese knick knacks, and two scrolls.
He said that the estate sale was at a mansion. He said the husband had died, and the wife was moving back to Japan. She had moved out most of the furniture, paintings, and things she wanted to take with her. He said everyting else was for sale. He said people were going crazy for the stuff. He said people were taking stuff off of the walls, stuffing it in a box and buying the box for $25-$50! OMG! I would have loved to be at that sale!
Anyways, how would I go about finding out what these scrolls are, who did them, and how much they are worth? They look fairly old.
Thanks,
-Troy
