Okay this is the first one from the group of 4 that I posted a while ago.

Right at 2.25"

I liked that right trunk but alas, the nursery beat it all to hell with a weed whacker or something. So I took it off and sealed it with cut paste. (You must seal these they rot very fast)

Here it is after the root ball was cut in half with a sawzall and the roots washed and combed out a bit.

I cut out any large downward growing roots and trimmed the long ones back to about 4"

In it's new home an 8" strainer from Dollar Tree.

I must say that root feels braided, even tho it is not obviously. So maybe that's a point for possible improvement for the nebari in my opinion.

Cool! I actually like the roots as they look normal for an older Chaste tree, or at least around here. Those grow pretty fast and in your climate probably even faster ;) I never had one but have seen some in local Landscape and nobody seemed to know if they back bud on old wood. Odd but interesting flowers too!

They backbud wonderfully. The leaves reduce smaller than a dime. They handle massive root reduction. They ramify very well if you cut back often. You do have to watch for water sprouts. They handle 120F without blinking. I love them!

I have the same experience with them. They are a wonderful tree and are amazing in the landscape when mature.

Hope you dont mind me dropping this here...

I also repotted mine today with my favorite tool. Not pleased with the nebari I uncovered but I was glad too see the pot filled with roots. It seems that they like to form curvy roots, really odd.

How do I stop it from flowering, do I just cut them off as soon as I see them?

I prune back to the first set of leaves each time I see flower buds forming. It helps leaf size and ramification. I generally will prune about 5-8 times a year!

Don't mind at all! The more attention these get the better. I would say, good luck preventing flowers. They will keep at it from early summer till leaf drop. Just keep pruning back to the first node. Depending on how much sun they get you will have quite a job staying ahead of it.

This one I sold. It was coming along nicely. Believe it or not, I actually killed one somehow. I will post some up as soon as I get a few minutes. Maybe this weekend. :)
