Be ready to pay thru the nose for them. They fetch about 60.00 per on ebay. I have half a dozen. Best magazine ever invented for a display freak.

Mr. Keppler, always the tease.

I am sure there are many out there wondering just what the hell a WABI magazine is. Well for starters it is an auction preview magazine for Seiji Morimae's Ginza Morimae Departmenht store on the Ginza, Japan.

In here you will see bonsai prepared by every name in Japan. Suzuki, Kobayashi, Kimura, etc. etc. Many finished and some not so finished. You will find stands, scrolls, chachki's, (knicknacks and carvings), pots, and Suiseki.

For finishers, the magazine is so tasteful it is a feast for the eyes. There are formal displays of trees in Tokonoma's and trees on glass pedistals and everything under the sun. A person could look at this magazine for about twenty minutes and go out side and literally throw away everything on your bench.

Here are about 20 pages from the 154 in each 1/2 inch thick magazine. It is Kokufu condensed. Well worth whatever it is you pay for one. I used to get them for 15.00 a piece I have no idea what they go for now. Ebay has them at 60.00 a copy.

How about some stones and some bunjin trees.

If you can find these books, and afford them, they will help improve your trees, if you listen to the pages.....

LOL I did a Google search for Wabi magazine and the #5 mentioned link was this thread :)

That is how obscure this magazine is in the US. I am sure that many people back east have them due to Bill and the shows and conventions around there. But out here it is still pretty much unknown. I started to collect them about 7 years ago. Mine are from 2004 and 2005. I checked I have 7 of them. No two trees alike either!

Thats funny too, I have mentioned these magazines numerous times thru the years on this forum as well as posting pictures. Bonsainut should be No. One!

The only reason we are NOT #1 in this listing is because the first four listings were incorrect (ie they went to Wabi Sabi magazine or some other content NOT Wabi Magazine).

By the way... for more fun here is the home site. I just spent an hour looking at the stands...

Sadly, the price for Wabi magazine in Japan is $10... including tax :( I don't doubt that a little markup is in order, but the guy on eBay selling them for $45 plus shipping is making a little too much margin on them, in my personal opinion.

45.00 is not that bad since I had only seen them at 60.00 on ebay. At least thats cheaper. Next time I will have my pot guy bring me back some WABI's instead of pots. My glass case if full right now anyway.

At that website, on the stones page, there are a lot of stones that have been "worked " there. They are easy to spot.

Take this little hut stone from Japan. I know it came from there because I bought it from a guy who goes there every year. If you look close, well not that close, one can see how the dark part of the stone is above the cleft in the stone. It contiues up the white part about an 1/8 inch. a real stone would not wear like that. The dark part is about four times as hard as the calcite that makes up the white part. There would be a distinct line betwen the white and dark.

Still a cool stone, worked or not. This is the back of the stone, the front is much better.

Do that and I will buy some off of you.... not at $45 [that's kinda inflated] but I could easily see paying $20-25 for one

Let me send a note to a bonsai source in Japan. He is having trouble exporting given the earthquake, tsunami and radioactive issues - but I don't think magazines would be a problem.
