My Chinese elm started opening buds a few days ago and we are still getting low temps in the low 20s here in NC It started budding out while in winter protection.. I've notice buds swelling o. Two other deciduous trees. My question is, what are the next step for the elm? Keep it in cold storage and let it grow? Or putting it back out in the cold. Will it be less vigorous this coming growing season, from coming out of dormancy early? Any suggestions/info would be greatly appreciated!!

This is common to Chinese elms. Just leave them where they are, they should be fine.

OK thank you. I've heard that it is common for Elms! But if buds are swelling and starting to open, can I repot?

Nope, not yet. Wait till spring is about to spring, or just after.
