I WOULD LIKE TO BUY SOME TYPE OF FLOWERING TREE LIKE A CRAB, CHERRY, PRUNE OR SOMETHING OTHER THAN THE TWIGS THAT I HAVE NOW THAT DON'T FLOWER AND PROBABLY WON'T FOR A NUMBER OF YEARS. ALSO IS IT POSSIBLE TO AIR LAYER ONE OF THESE THAT HAS A BRANCH OR TRUNK SIZE OF 1-2", OR IS THAT ASKING TO MUCH? THANKS FOR THE HELP.

1-2" branch diameter is ideal for layering. Even larger is possible.
Don't expect every branch to yield a great bonsai. Select very, very carefully to get better trunk from the branches you have available.

Cuttings and layers from most mature flowering plants can flower the following spring as the wood is already mature and flowering age. Flowering for crab, cherry, etc is more about pruning to promote flowering spurs than age.
