Absolutely no proof, but I would speculate that Japan doesn't send the rest of the world their best akadama. They may, but at a very high price. My whole take on the akadama thing is this: Japan took their local trees from their local mountains and used their local soil to grow trees in their local climate with their local water. How that translates to growing a bald cypress in South Louisiana or a ponderosa pine in New Mexico I don't know.
