Rainy all day today...
Yesterday...
the day before...
and the day before that !!!
But, good news !!! Tomorrow, will be rainy all day as well !!!

Figured I would post a tree that complimented what
is currently coming down outside.

I repotted, repositioned, and re-thunk the state of this
tree... and greatly re-shortened it, if that's a word ???

The remainder of this tree can be found here !!!

Dragged out my white background for it cause not only is it
raining... But cold and Foggy as well...

Way to re-thunk a tree ! It looks great, love to see it when its all resplendent with new foliage.

Less is more and by making it smaller you really highlight what is important which is that great trunk....nice! Have you ever thought of wiring this one out like it was in the middle of a wind storm, with all the branches going up and back opposite to the direction of the trunk. Robert Stevens is a master with this style and I think this tree would really lend itself to it.

I must say your Chinese Elm is looking great. I also admire the fact that you took the time to work it, impressed :)

Have you thought of using pegs for weeping style?
I use them when the branches are still succulent and it takes only two days to set a branch in its initial direction. If I want the bend more away from the trunk I just wait for the branch to grow a bit.
But it is good also to keep the branches down.
Nice tree!

Thanks for sharing...beautiful tree!

Dav4...are you meaning windswept?

Yes, but even more severe. When I think "windswept" I think of branches that are more or less growing out horizontally, as the prevailing winds have forced them. What I'm envisioning with this tree is styling it as if it's in the midst of a gale, with the branches actually blowing backward and upward...it's a very dynamic design that, when done accurately, is truly magical.

Thought I would post some pics with leaves...
I actually went through this tree this past weekend and gave it,
it's first haircut and thinning out of the year... Sorry, I didn't get
any before pics... This thing grows faster than weeds, especially
now that it has been reduced in size.

I love it as well have you thought of putting more wiggly movement in the down word branches?

Hawthorn . . . . .

I could... I just wanted to try and imitate a weeping willow with
this tree. If one ever gets to see a really cool one in person, it is
just like a curtain of foliage draping down towards the ground.

If I come across some more cheap elm material, and feel like picking
it up, I will try a couple of different styles, as have been suggested.
:)

I love the character of this tree, the trunk has such great movement but naturally looking and not forced. And the graceful branches are perfect complement to the entire tree. I wouldn't change a thing about this tree...

It's a piece of art...I keep coming back to look at it.

I am gonna have to start charging admission...
:)
You should try doing one... Chinese elms are cheap and a dime a dozen.
Just like anything though... it is what you make of it !!!

Did you add the movement to the trunk? I am drawn to how it moves...then falls to tell weeping in the right place. I just may...if I find a trunk with enough character. Though...I doubt it could ever look this graceful. Your skill/talent shows through in your trees.

I for one am appreciative for your posts...and other talented bonsai members here.

If you go back and look at the link in the first post of the original tree, you will see that
what makes up the top of the tree was actually just a lower branch on the trunk, that had some movement that's all.

Thanks for the compliments !

I had the same thought as you when I looked at this weeper.
