Coming up on 40 years, of growing trees.

This morning sitting in front of the Indoor Oak, and realising that the
leaves are in harmony with the design, the pinnacle had been
reached and in a few months, it is down hill.

So K decided that he is out of Bonsai.
He has reached the above a good many times.

Getting older and wants to devote his time to Oil painting, Pottery.
Jewellery and wood carving.

Will keep about 30 to 40 efforts, but leaving the research on locals
to the younger guys now coming in - 15 to 25 years old.
Will give them all, so they can jump ahead.

I will keep up with the J.B.pine 6 year. But apart from a progress shot
or two for this year. It is just growing.

Be here to read, speak less and encourage.
Good Day

Do you actually like bonsai yourself?

@Djtommy ,

we raise trees from seed, it is very intimate.
Like children.
Most folk down here will gladly purchase the efforts
and then kill them.

So the next move is a ----- Bonsai Museum.

To do this we have to back off the research into natives
and focus on getting, land, buildings and money.
Create jobs and get it all permanent.

To protect the children.

The younger folk also deserve a chance at exploring.

@just.wing.it ,

the philosophy is different. Growing Bonsai is for the stimulation
of ideas. It is an old Chinese Scholar philosophy.
Meant more for use with Writing, Poetry, Painting and Sculpture.
Like Scholar stones.

Not for exhibitions.

I think Dan Barton sells the bonsai that reach the pinnacle of a design.
Artists tend to think differently.

@Nybonsai12 ,

you missed - 6 Year J.B.pine contest and - here to read,.........
You are also invited to visit, since it upsets you so much.:)

Nobody’s upset. My point was if you expect me to believe you are only going to come here to read and participate in the growing contest then I am calling bullshit. I don’t understand these announcement threads. You’ll be here posting in threads about marbles in your soil before the month is over...lol. All in good fun.

Anthony, I didn’t ask about we, I asked to you.
I’m asking because I’m not sure why if K want to quit bonsai, why you want to quit aswell. Unless it has begon to be a burden for you to take care of his trees.

If you enjoy yourself which I would assume you do since you have been doing it for 40 years I just don’t understand why you would stop if k stops. He is not your boss no?

That’s said 40 years may seem long to you and it also seems long to me but that’s just from our perspective. The trees have reached their pinnacle is not really something you can say as a fact. That’s is just your opinion. What you see as the pinnacle is maybe a good start for someone else or may already be beyond the imagination for yet another person.

There are trees kept as bonsai in japan for several hundred years. Have they reached the pinnacle? Maybe they have but then again maybe they have not. It’s what one chooses to believe.

Hmm, as I have tried to explain before,

I am not an Artist, I can follow a drawing / a plan.
Trim to what is drawn.
I water, weed , repot but am not creative.
Can appreciate because I took Art Appreciation classes.

There will be trees around, just not new locals.

Shutting down the research side and will look after the
few left.

NyBonsai,

the way the J.B.pine seed grows, all one can do is show
how you germinate, and how you grow on the seedling.

What we are fusing together is the trunk thickening and
branch placements.
Hopefully for a 3 to 4 year growing plan with a 3 inch trunk.

Which will be left for you guys.
Good Day

@AZbonsai ,

I have an object that I want to show @sorce , keep a look out
and you may also find it interesting.

Now note I am not saying goodbye, just changing the focus.

We now have a tree, Chlorophora t [ Fustic ] that has a very
positive effect in ground growing with a colander.
The branchlet density is close enough to a Zelkova.
So the new tests are - trunk and branch - then branchlets.

The idea is to see how fast a 3 inch trunk and say 4 to 6 main
branches can be grown.
Then branchlets.

First test showed, 3 inch trunk under 6 months.
Second test [ on going ] 3 inch trunk and 4 to 6 branches.

If we can do this say 6 times, until it becomes like breathing.
And there are over 6 cuttings from the mother ready to go.
Well the gift to the Bonsai Folk is a much faster situation for
Bonsai attempts.[ using natives - i.e. Texas Ebony ;)]

No more 10 years + for growing attempts.

Additionally we have 3 J.B.pines doing the above.

No more 60 / 70 / 80 year olds despairing that they can't
finish a Bonsai.No more rote.

Now what would it take for six 1 year old J.B.pines in colanders
in the ground in a 6 year J.B.pine study ?
Good Day
