Well it’s hot out there. First let me just share these two from April 3,2019.FDDAC357-C32C-406A-94A0-EBEF299601BF.jpeg
And today
F16BFACB-D917-40AD-96AF-6C9F089B045E.jpeg
you gotta start somewhere.
So this year I have my own house. My first summer is quarantine Summer. I’ve planted so many yard shrubs, hanging baskets and found a real love for hydrangea.
But back to the ficus.
I have a plain Jane bench that really holds everything. Next year I may expand.

So I’m going to photo dump a lot of small projects here and I will photo my main franchise trees when they come back inside for the winter. It will be good to have a comparison thread through the years.

some need to be worked on, some need to be cut back and some just need to grow.
There are a few projects that I haven’t included because I think they will be better than now in a month or two.
I will get all of my trees in this thread by fall. :)

Nice! I just took a bunch of willow leaf ficus cuttings and hacked up a tiger bark into three different plants this week.

Some of my not ficus- schefflera and brush cherry.
The smaller brush cherry got tipped over off the bench and dried out. I thought I lost it but it is recovering well. These started out as fairy garden plants in 2 inch pots. Still learning the species and growth habits. I will say they did well under the lights over the winter. When I repotted them before going outside they had lots of circling roots. Those were removed to begin again.3B773597-190C-47A2-BA9B-C0E430620165.jpegB3790867-0269-4569-979E-C32AD2519C47.jpeg

I brought all the plants inside today. I did not get a lot of pics because I was busy. Sprayed them all down with Neem as a preventative. Left the lights turned off today and will spray again next Sunday.
First pic posted earlier in the thread - jul 8th
Second pic is today.585A5251-9490-403E-B9C2-12A091C12953.jpeg09E944FD-AF9C-4FDB-9835-F815A1789AB7.jpeg
I hope these continue to grow inside this year.
I will try to keep it a little warmer and water less.

I put this one in this deeper pot to get some good growth over summer.
I still haven’t found a proper replacement so it will stay there for now.

Nice looking bunch of little tree folks you have there! Well done :)

Never did like hydrangea, but my better half loves them. We were having a "Where to put the hydrangea battle" all summer that we think we've finally solved.
Too many trees and plants.... so little time!

Great question- it is going to be in the 40s at night starting Tuesday.
today was very windy and knocked 2 off the bench.
Really? Wow. I hate the thought of bringing mine in, last year we had an early cold snap and they had to come in early in October.

@Carol 83 they would probably be fine it’s a low of 46. Earlier this week they said a low of 42 so I got nervous.
It’s for 2 days so I will probably take a few back outside but not all of them.
It gave me a chance to sort through them and decide if there were any I’m not keeping.
Trim a few stray growths and check wires.
Also gave me a chance to make sure everything fits on my shelves and treat for pests.

Gotcha', I would be getting nervous at those temps too. I just hate bringing mine in for the winter. :(

One of my premna did poorly this winter.
it did lose most of its leaves.
there are dormant buds getting ready to pop out though. Gave it a repot today.

Picked up a couple of Japanese maples to experiment with.
they will probably go in to the ground once my yard trees grow some leaves.
Still have a shishigashira on the way.
I did get some critter damage to my kito hime-
Leaves were eaten off- hopefully it will live.

My tropicals can tell that it’s almost time to go back outside. After a winter of being mostly leafless they are budding back out.
I was getting nervous on a few of them but so far so good. 721B9643-5A2C-49EE-B649-1C391BD76351.jpegA8E6B6DE-CB65-4908-9239-9B056B53EFB2.jpeg
I have done repots on several already.
The roots do look better than last year.
I tried not to water as much this year.
I’m repotting into a normal size mix to encourage finer roots. I did switch to a coarse mix a few years back but decided that my roots respond better in the other.
