Is this some kind of fungus? This was the only tree that seems to have an issue in my storage area. I sprayed with copper fungicide and daconil around December and another time a month ago? I am going to cut off infected leaves and spray it again with daconil.

PS the white stuff is most likely daconil

Hopefully it's not the dreaded fire blight.

Clean your tools after every cut to be safe.

But besides that. What has your regiment of care been. (Besides fungal treatment) Where has the tree been kept?

Watering weekly in a heated shed (kept around 34 F). There is one window, and some light from the ceiling. It looks to be most prevalent in areas where branches are shaded out. I am hoping it’s just from lack of sun.

That looks more like a yupon holly (ilex) than a firethorn. I had something like that happen to some large landscape ones that I dug. Seeming healthy leaves would just start turning dark brown and dying, then the branch would die all the way back to the trunk. It never happened on large branches, only the twiggy ones. I think that it is some type of fungus or blight. Fortunately, mine were large enough to not be affected by the loss, it wasn't as bad last season. I think @Brian Van Fleet mentioned that he lost a tree to this, I could be wrong.

Doesn't look like pyracantha to me either. The leaves are never serrated nor pointed.

Hmmm I picked up this one at HD because I liked the base. It was marked Firethorn, but maybe not...

Any solutions to this fungus/blight that anyone can think of? I have Daconil, Copper Fungicide, and Cleary’s at my disposal.

Just to check it off the list, I decided to take a look at the roots since I didn’t do much work to them besides some cutback last spring. I am really glad I did, because I think I found out what was the issue. Even though it was in a very large container, there was very little growth once I dug it out. The feeder roots were few and far between, and they were thick, dead roots that occupied much of the space.

Once I cleaned everything out, you can see how few feeder roots were actually there!

I repotted it in a coarser mix, and re-planted it in Anderson flat so it could get maximum oxygen, and drainage for root development. Since there were so few heavy roots to wire, I screwed a stainless steel screw through the bottom of the flat and into the base of the tree. There was still a good amount of foliage left on the tree after I pruned off the dead stuff, I hope it bounces back!!! ? This is not a particularly expensive tree, but I still like this lil’ Shohin!
