These trees are planted all over my university and they’ve got some hella interesting features. I’m guessing it might be some sort of gum tree, but which?

Cannot ID any Eucalyptus species but does it smell like one? That would give family at least;).

@BunjaeKorea yeah, have to get that education, never too late to learn. Locals just call it 深大

@Potawatomi13 stupid me didn’t stop to smell it, haven’t been around a eucalyptus in a while, forgot about the distinctive smell. But it seems like we’re on the money there with the broadleaf paperbark

I bagged me a couple of seeds from these. Some bloke on AusBonsai has a nice one (I’ll hijack a pic later) apparently they reach maturity in like 3 years, perfect for newbies or people who are just impatient

Yep it's Melaleuca quinquenervia for sure.
Should propagate from cuttings easy enough, a fairly good species for bonsai.

Nobody on the interwebs mentioned cuttings, also, I’m having problems with my VPN, so I can’t google. I’ll take a few cuttings when it warms up a bit.
