It was the weirdest experience too, the guy wasn’t even at his stall, I called the number, asked the guy how much for one of his 榆树 (elms) and he told me to scan a code to pay for it and take one.An elm for $2, you lucky duck!
Love those. Just out of curiosity how much did one of those go for? And how long can it live in that bag? Weird way to sell a tree but really cool trees!3 elms and 3 pots… kind of regular weekend 🫣

Thank you… I wanted two only… small one became part of the deal. All together for three of them I paid 2,600 RMB… at 7RMB/USD that’s around $370.Love those. Just out of curiosity how much did one of those go for? And how long can it live in that bag? Weird way to sell a tree but really cool trees!
Oh, huh, I thought it would be cheaper in your location for some reason. This isn't a cheap hobby though. I saw your thread in the Elms forum, I'm hoping you post a potted Elm's picture.Thank you… I wanted two only… small one became part of the deal. Looking at them I think they’ve been in these bags for quite a while… going to pots today… kind of yamadori approach. Let’s see.
I really like the blue crackly looking ones. This is Oct-Nov loot...

I do not have a FB account, however my husband does and he somehow joined the auction groups. I've seen his pots, seriously tempted to buy one but am trying to concentrate on Christmas gifts.you're a member of the bonsai pot auctions or the 99 cent in FB? The potter's name is Kevin Berresford... he does awesome pots. The last batch that he posted today are out there.

True… wasn’t quite cheap but these are quite old… was starting negotiations from 4,000 … landed at 2,600… it so what it is. Hope they grow well… it’s all that matters now…Oh, huh, I thought it would be cheaper in your location for some reason. This isn't a cheap hobby though. I can think of plenty of other places in the world where his level of trust would result in an empty stall and no money. Reminds me a bit of when you go way into the coutryside and encounter unmanned farmers potato/asparagus/strawberry stands asking you to take your purchase and leave CASH in the box! I certainly would not be trusting enough to leave that unsupervised! It was the weirdest experience too, the guy wasn’t even at his stall, I called the number, asked the guy how much for one of his 榆树 (elms) and he told me to scan a code to pay for it and take one.
they just steal stuff of actual value, back home in South Africa i NEVER had anything stolen from me, meanwhile in China, i lost 4 scooters alreadyI can think of plenty of other places in the world where his level of trust would result in an empty stall and no money. I wonder if that is less criminality and more a relic of older communist ideals of “what’s yours is mine” and vice versa. Like the idea of bicycles being everywhere to take as needed (before autos became more dominant). I’m probably giving the nefarious elements of society more credit than they deservethey just steal stuff of actual value, back home in South Africa i NEVER had anything stolen from me, meanwhile in China, i lost 4 scooters already
That's a really kick ass redwood! Look forward to seeing it in a show soon
I have seen stalls with no one taking care in Japan all the time.
