Not really a purchase because I would never actually buy myself a Juniper...But a couple of well-meaning friends gifted me one as an early birthday gift, bless their hearts. It came from Brussel's, so Mississippi. I am hesitant to expose it to the abrupt change in temps by putting it outside immediately and struggling with deciding if I should try and keep it alive until spring, under the lights. birthday tree.jpg

Yesterday I bought this Buxus Harlandi for 20€ at supermarket (OBI). On photos just after some basic cleaning of death twigs, leaves and 3 most unnecessary branches. Now I will wait till spring and then reppot it to better substrate and if it grow well maybe do some further styling at fall. For me it looks like little jem with good potential.. or maybe I am just too naive 😅😅

I bought an $25 LED light with an amazon GC from x-mas, and got this sweet set of tools for free! Yay America! Dreams do come true too!

My 11yo asked me for money last week so she could buy me bonsai seeds for my birthday. Maple with unnaturally pink foliage.

I wound up giving her the money to go to the local game shop with friends in stead.
Still, made me warm and fuzzy inside.

Just for some perspective . Now I’m not complaining this is my specialty local nursery . And it’s a known northern cold cultivar . And there stuff is all quality and healthy . I don’t get the double price same size . 2023 prices . I get preferred customer 10 percent off everything . Plus mine was late/ spring early summer 25 % off everything I paid around 110$ last year . Post is to show rare plant cost I. Other countries .

I keep fishing around for a pot for an azalea I have... I had a really nice blue oribe Koyo but ended up using it for a quince that was leafing out. I think it was the better choice as I think it was too large for the azalea.

Anyways. I think 5" is the magic number and I took a shot on this Bigei. I love the red flare and would want this pot regardless, but I kind of want a pot that really pops for this tree, a starker white or blue color, so I'm curious to see it up close. Worried the cream parts may be too dark to hold up to the explosion of color in the flowers.

a better comparison . The 1.70 $ trees are local reforestation nursery no shipping . Pick up only 100 tree min . The Scot’s pine are mail order spring delivery . From inside Canada . Forget live tree importation . Government inspection and red tape . Nursery level . Doable . Specimen bonsai but risky

It's the thought that counts.

Bonsai center Gingko sale in Laarne yesterday. Treasure trove for me.

Still had some room for pines so...

Pinus penta 120 euro. Needs some cleaning but the trunk is very nice IMHO

Sons first bonsai 25 euro. Needles are somewhat yellow so I was hesitant but this was the one he wanted. Wondering to chose chop at white tag or some more bending upwards...Will be his choice.

IMG_20230205_133332.jpg

And to end with...pinus penta 15 euro. Nice trunk, but somewhat straight after first wheel. Wondering which steps to take with this one. Plenty of branches to choose from. Suggestions are welcome.

Forgot to ask, was in a hurry unfortunately. Store was very crowded so not much time for conversation whatsoever.
