I'm one of those people who's not afraid to ask the really, really stupid questions, so here I go, lol;

What are these made of? And what are they called?
I mean; the flat and dark brown "thingie" that the pot is standing on?
Do people make these themselves? Or do you buy them from somewhere?

I think they look like thin slices of tree trunks, but I'm no stranger to being wrong :p

There may be a Japanese name for them but I've just called is a slab or display burl, they can be made or bought. I've seen a couple that are $$$

Those are wooden slabs for displaying trees, that can give a more natural appearance.
