Wired up my 'Myojo' parviflora. I went to great effort not to trap any buds or needles, as I'd really prefer not to inhibit any more growth— I've read this is one of the slowest Japanese White pine varieties. At some point I'll thin out the foliage, but I'm hoping it'll put some bulk on first.

Finally was able to drill some drainage holes in a few goodwill / Asian market containers, very happy with how they look. I like my drainage holes to be chunky :)PXL_20230130_041829040.jpgPXL_20230130_041853327.jpg
It's my Friday today and I finally got around to some actual work; first, a Platycerium 'kusamono' using a shattered pot I got from work:PXL_20230130_041942488.jpg

Also styled a Jade, which I think has significant interest. It's one of my favorites, deep down. Forgot to take before pics but I took off some old wire, cut back for branching, and guy "wire". I was going to go for a tighter angle but remembered that, should I water it, the turgidity might too much pressure on the branch and snap it. PXL_20230130_040233842.jpg
They say it can't be done, but here I come, cascade Jade (crasscade?). All's left to do is keep it in this position for a decade or so 😅

Repotted my 50+ year old Scots Pine. Ten years since last repot. I acquired this tree from a club member/mentor who has since passed away. Hopefully some day it will move on to a younger club member to continue the heritage. It feels to me like the Neil Young song "This old Guitar"

Took a JBP workshop yesterday and left with this guy. I’ll keep him in the non-freezing section until we’re in the clear - with -10 in the forecast I think I need to move some more stuff in temporarily

I almost caved and let this one be a cascade but thought better of it. I’ve got 8 or so of these and 3 more to wire up. They’re nothing special but fun to do. They're wiring practice. I've kept lower branches on most than actually needs to be there. Those will be the first to go, eventually. They're not hurting anything right now.

I got playing in the woods today after work. I got a privet stump to torture and a beech to send north to @HorseloverFat . I showed the privet no mercy. It got roots chopped, planted in 100% granite pea gravel and carved and sealed. The deer have been doing a good job keeping it trimmed.

My local Lowes has had some 8 foot cypress trees for $100 for months now. I figured when they got the dead in January look they'd put them on clearance, stopped by today and sure enough there was this guy. The trunk is an inch or two thicker than a soda can and starting to flute a little.

I've finally gotten to the point where I don't buy many starter plants anymore. Last year I did buy this burning bush that got its initial edit today. It was relatively cheap and i saw a pretty decent informal broom start. 20230131_172758.jpg

Worked on my nishiki pine today. I wired, and removed some heavy bark from the upper part of the tree to create some negative space. I then re attached the bark at the base to improve the taper.

Awesome tree!
How did you manage to "attach" the bark taken from the upper part of the tree?
Glue?
