While I was sick the last three weeks I was not on top of watering my tropicals so I spent some time cleaning up the dried out leaves on the plants that got a little crispy. Most of them should bounce back.

Then I finally got some faced insulation. Working with unfaced on such wide batts is a nightmare. Trying to slide insulation along rough cedar siding doesn't work so I had to cut some cardboard to help me get the insulation behind the shelves.

Progress! Finally!

In the process of cleaning out the shed to continue insulating I pulled out the black walnut I had for making stands but I forgot to stick pieces of wood between them for airflow so they all split really badly.

I hope you're feeling better.

Started going through the trees in preparation to start moving them to my coldframe. This entails cleaning the soil surface of moss and weeds, removing leaves and some light pruning.

Will start moving some to the coldframe tomorrow. Azaleas and chojuba will be first.

I would normally leave the cold hardy pines out and only put them in if necessary but I'm getting surgery next month and I will not be able to pick up and carry them for a while so they all have to go in before that happens
Hope your surgery goes well.

You can still make stands. Twist pegs with steel wire on the end edges. Wood glue then stabilize the underside. Edge trim will camophlage the stabilizers.

You plan to use this for winter storage for your trees? Looks good by the way
Yep. I store my trees in it every winter, but it's expensive to keep the temperature reasonable during the polar vortexes we get. One week of -10°F to -20°F adds a lot of money to my electric bill just to keep the shed at 8‐10°F.

We built a new hang out area recently that overlooks our Japanese garden that is bit disheveled right now, still need to add a worktable to it and photo background for future pics. Also, transplanted 10 30 plus year old cork oaks that are on smaller size due the nursery we got them from constantly cutting them down. Great oaks for people that want older and manageable size cork oaks. And the view from my fathers after all the rains we got in California lately.

I checked my buried-ish pots since we had the first frost today. The holly is lovely with the edged leaves. I plan on just letting leaves pile up in the open cold-frame, which won't be closed unless it is teens Fahrenheit or below. There is a sensor in there to report to my indoor/outdoor thermo inside.

The privets (lower left, "borrowed" from the hedge) don't look too comfy, but they can be replaced easily.

Fingers crossed. :)

Printed a pot. Yes - the colour is probably "wrong", but that's what was in the printer. No - it isn't the right material, I think.

But the system needed testing, as far as how to print so that the feet can be glued on the bottom. I tried using supports, but it was not good.... :( The feet need work as well - a bit of rounding on the edges.

Anyhow - the "system" will be improved, and the colour will be adjusted, and in the Spring some poor plant will be planted in one of these to see how it survives (the plant AND the pot).

Potting around enjoying the weather and new colours, looking at all the new growth, inspecting drainage and leaf quality with a few snips here and there.
Moss got the photo today.

Got it's first repot in October after years of "one day".
This morning I think it's getting some colour back and on the road to recovery.
I didn't go to hard out on the top roots, will let it settle for a year.
