Planted the JBP in a colander with 50/50 mix of coconut coir & pumice. I did not bare root it, but did rake out the roots for maximum spread.

Also planted the Juniper procumbens Nana that I worked on styling yesterday. There's more to do, but I wanted the visual of seeing it in the pot.

I had gotten some dwarf fern off of Frank McDermott. Wasn't satisfied with the pot I stuck it in. Finally found time and desire to go through what I had...and look there. A genuine @sorce pot I decided on. 🥰

Yes, it's lovely. 🥰

Indeed a very cool pot. But also...I'm a sentimental lush...love he made it. 🥰

still trying to figure out the right arrangement on my south benches, messed around with it today.

They get zero sun in the winter other than late afternoon (my front yard is on the south side, this is the south side of my backyard), now they are getting blasted with sun between 10:30am and 6pm which is great. If I trim my crepe myrtle tree on the east side, and my aralias on the left side of this shot, I can get more morning sun on these benches.

I'm always getting something started, seems like I never get finished.
Removed some Winter damage on my golden hinoki and thinned it somewhat.
Still a good deal to carry out, but that's enough till mid Summer, but the pads were
getting way yonder too thick to do anybody any good. Keeps you on your feet they do.

Had temps drop to an incredibly late 32° last night. Didn't want to do the shuffle with my tropicals that have been out for a month, so I put a sheet of painters plastic over my bench. Seems to work great for those very short frosts

I up-potted an experimental bald cypress into a little shallower and much wider container. She's still in training, so it's plastic for now. 3-4 years from collection. It didn't sprout where I wanted so I "improvised" a new design. I have no fear about doing this to a vigorous bald cypress.

I build a grow bed, for pond baskets and other material that can benefit from some escape roots but still should be kept under control. We keep running out of space, tomorrow I start a three shelve bench.

Got all of my early development trees off the benches and onto the driveway for some quality sun and heavy watering around noon, I got up on a ladder and took a of 'class of 2023' photo (except they are far from graduating to refinement stage lol)

all are clones, air layers, or from seed except the italian cypress, kishu and 2 shimps, and larger parsoni. youngest addition is the purple bougie on the bottom right

Stuck a cheap tree in a really nice pot...

I also put a nice ficus I got from home depot (a fluke) into another Vance Hanna pot, but not paying attention I tied it in leaning the wrong way, so will take a pic next repot.

Glued some bark back on that was shedding (bad idea?) and trimmed a few under needles as it settles
into its new pot. I wired the bark back in place for a few hours while the outdoor wood glue sets.

Also ordered a smallish 5-7 inch imported JWP seedling off of eBay.

who’s got jwp on ebay?
I removed wire from a bunch of young trees today. One of my jwp was biting in already. These beech had scars from last spring, I got them in time this year. 🥰
