What do I need to know about using a winter shelter?

FWIW, here is my finished setup. It's a frost blanket off of Amazon. I used 1x6 and 8' x 5', with 1/2" PVC for the hoops. Padlock hasps for the corners for easy disassembly.

Maybe it's unneeded, I just like building things.

Iā€™m also in the school of ā€œif it ainā€™t broke donā€™t fix itā€ because any time you make any sort of significant change to your ā€œusualā€ you risk introducing new and unexpected problems you may not have foreseen. That said, your new set up looks solid and I donā€™t see any reason youā€™d have issues with that.

Looks great! Also love the padlock hasp idea, it makes the setup more long lasting as one can store the frame pieces in a dry area after winter.

Personally I dig/mulch in trees just for an edge during winter, but very interested how these trees spring forth in spring!

cheers
