Hi,

I saw these white spots on the desert rose and some leaves also have something that looks like spider web. Can someone please identify what pest this is and how to treat it?

Thank you.

Spider mites. They hate humidity and neem oil helps. If you want to go the pesticide route, there are many commercially available sprays in your local garden center that will clear them up.

Thank you. Can I spray down with a strong stream of water since you said spider mites hate humidity?

Tough to know with the lack of evidence. Do you have some type of magnifier, 10-30 power that you can look at the areas and know if there is a live bug moving around. Spider mites are very small and you will have to look hard to see them. Yes, if there is webbing and small bugs around, spider mites for sure. You can spray the tree with water, but remember you are just spraying them to the ground where they can crawl right back up on the tree. I would suggest spraying with a miticide to kill them. Most nurserys DO NOT carry appropriate sprays that will kill mites, at least in my area. Make sure the spray specifically states that it will kill spider mites. Also, mites lay eggs which will hatch in 7-10 days so one has to continue to spray to make sure you get them all.
